Immunohistochemical Study of Lycoris Radiata on Streptozotocin-treated Diabetic Rats


Abstract
Objective : This experiment was performed into investigate the effect of Lycoris radiata on the diabetic rats induced by streptozotocin(ST2).
Method : Experimental disbetes was induced by 55mdkg of STZ injection and administered Lycoris radiata extract during 7 days and 14 days after STZ injection.
Insulin and glucagon granules in Langerhans islets were stained by use of immunohistcchemical method and observed the relative amount of each granules in Langerhans islets by light microscope and image analysis system.
Results : 1. Area % of insulin granules in Langerhans islets at administrated group of 7.55§· Lycoris radiata extract incresed showed the statistically significant difference with the control group at 14th day
2. Area % of insulin granules in Langerhans islets at administrated group of 1 5 . 1 ~ Lycoris radiata extract incresed and showed the statistically significant difference with the control group at 14th day
3. Area % of glucagon granules in Langerhans islets at administrated group of 7 . 5 5 ~ Lycoris radiata extract decresed and showed the statistically significant difference with the control group at 7th day and 14th day.
4. Area % of glucagon granules in Langerhans islets at administrated group of 15.lmg Lycoris radiata extract decresed and showed the statistically significant difference with the control group at 7th day and 14th day.
Conclusion : According to above results, we know that Lycoris radiata has a control effect on insulin and glucagon granules in Langerhans islets of diabetic rats induced by STZ.
